World Turtle Month Begins April 22!

American Tortoise Rescue Raises Awareness for Turtle Conservation

Malibu, California - March 8, 2023

World Turtle Month, an annual event established by the American Tortoise Rescue (ATR), is just around the corner, beginning on Earth Day, April 22, and culminating with a celebration on World Turtle Day, May 23. This year, ATR is shining a spotlight on the Eastern box turtle, a species native to North America facing habitat loss and other threats.

ATR, a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of turtles and tortoises, has been working tirelessly to raise awareness about these fascinating creatures and the challenges they face. Throughout World Turtle Month, ATR will host a variety of educational events, including webinars, social media campaigns, and community outreach programs.

The Eastern box turtle is a medium-sized turtle with a distinctive hinged shell that allows it to close itself off completely for protection. It is found in a variety of habitats, including forests, grasslands, and wetlands. However, due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and other factors, the Eastern box turtle is listed as a threatened species in some areas.

ATR's goal during World Turtle Month is to educate the public about the importance of protecting turtles and their habitats. Through its outreach efforts, ATR hopes to inspire people to take action to help these vulnerable creatures. By supporting ATR's mission, you can make a difference in the lives of turtles and tortoises around the world.
